In late September, Salesianum alumni and friends celebrated the golden anniversary of the last team coached at Salesianum by football legend Dominic S. "Dim" Montero '38.

On Thursday, September 24, more than 125 alumni and friends gathered at Harry’s Savoy Ball Room to celebrate with a tribute dinner. Emcee Jack Holloway '64 led a night of programming featuring speeches by Harry Alexander '63, Ted Kempski '58, and current head football coach, Bill DiNardo.

On Friday, September 25, Montero’s former players and their families gathered to take part in a favorite Montero-era tradition: praying the Rosary in the Chapel before the game. Perhaps Coach Montero was listening in that evening, because Salesianum beat Smyrna 76-56.

At halftime, Montero’s former players walked out onto the field through a cheer tunnel for a presentation about the impact of Montero’s incredible legacy on Salesianum football. Emcee Mike Gallagher ’69 donned the classic Montero fedora to connect the past with the present, as he spoke from the 50-yard-line.
